Population data from the 2000 United States Census of Population and Housing are presented here.
It should be noted, however, that there are two tabulations from the census. One tabulation represents the information requested from all households. This is called the "100 percent" data. The other tabulation was derived from the survey from which asked additional information of one out of every six households. This is referred to as the "sample" data. In order to maintain compatibility with census labor force statistics, which are only available from the "sample" data, all West Virginia population in this publication is also from the "sample" data.
Occupational characteristics are published in the separate volume "Occupational Supplement - Affirmative Action Information", LER 113A. Symbols used in this publication are the asterisk (s)(*) and the dash (es)(-). An asterisk, or double asterisk, indicates that the data have been suppressed for a characteristic which is based on a small number of people in that geographical location. This is necessary to maintain anonymity for these people surveyed for the census. In some cases, complementary suppression is applied to prevent the derivation of suppressed data by subtraction. A dash, or double dash, indicates that there were no people in that area with that particular characteristic. There are circumstances in the civilian labor force data where the rounding procedure causes the number to be zero. Three dashes (---) indicate that the data are not produced for that area.
